MEMBERSHIP [top]

Membership in the Charlotte Area Educational Consortium consists of two categories: regular membership and associate membership. Regular membership is open to any nonprofit college or university based in the Charlotte metropolitan region which is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The annual membership fee for regular members for 2001-02 is $400. Associate membership in the Consortium is open to appropriately accredited institutions and other nonprofit organizations who support the purpose of the Consortium but do not qualify for regular membership. Associate members may attend and participate in discussions at all meetings; however, they are not extended voting privileges. The annual membership fee for associate members for 2001-02 is $200. The Consortium is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of the chief administrative officers of the member colleges and universities and a Council comprised of the chief academic officers and delegates from the member institutions.

ACTIVITIES [top]

Full-time students at regular member colleges and universities are eligible to participate in the inter-institutional student exchange program of the Consortium. This enables them to enroll in some courses at other CAEC schools without paying additional fees. A teacher educational division provides networking and information for member institutions involved in higher education. Special discipline divisions are encouraged and supported. Two representatives from each member institution are eligible to attend the Administrative Leadership Institutes underwritten by member dues. A library cooperative program allows faculty the use of other libraries to supplement their home institution's resources. The Consortium also sponsors faculty visitations, as well as conferences and forums dealing with issues in higher education.
